Bling and the Street

Beale Street, Memphis, St Patrick's Day 2012.

This young man stood out from the revelers. He was in contrast to the mostly intoxicated laughing and singing crowd. Always looking for an interesting street shot, I walked by him several times.. When he noticed me and my camera ( Fuji x10, ISO 1000, f3.5, no flash) I approached, asked and received permission to photograph him. Enjoy, Jeff

Church

Memphis. Home of Graceland, Beale Street, Rock and Roll and the Full Gospel Tabernacle Church. This is Rev Al Green, yes, the famous Al Green soul singer of the 60's and 70's, who founded the Church in 1976. We went there Sunday AM and had a great experience witnessing the praying , singing and intention of the participants. Notice the emotion captured. Camera: Fuji X10 at ISO 800, f3.5. Enjoy, Jeff

Rings of Iron

Artwork at the Albany airport. Shot with iPhone 4 and processed in Photoforge. I really liked the texture of the rings and wooden ball. Photoforge allowed for complementary editing. Enjoy , Jeff

Patterns

At the airport with some time. I always find it pleasurable to walk around and look. Look for images with a photographer's eye. There were these little colorful toys with nice patterns. Shot with iPhone 4 and edited lightly in Camera+. Enjoy, Jeff

Old Stuff

This old clackety clack typewriter was on display at the Albany airport. Shot and edited in QBro, I had fun applying filters and then it went to Snapseed for final effects. Enjoy, Jeff

A Sea of Umbrellas

Patterns, colors and design. The joy of a downpour raising a sea of umbrellas!

This scene unfolded at SPAC during an Elton John performance.

Shot with my iPhone 4 and edited in Camera+. Enjoy, Jeff

The Dog

Beautiful day in Albany and found this sweet mixed breed dog in Washington Park.  I had on my 50mm Nikkor set at 1.8 ( really 3.3 with the 1.5 crop APS sensor), focused midway between the eyes and snout as I wanted both to be sharp.  The 50mm lens wide open creates a shallow DOF as noted on the  blurred underside neck and chest region.  Only an SLR (full frame is best) can create this shallow DOF.  Pocket cameras are great for getting everything in focus, but not for this.  Camera was a Fuji Finepix S3Pro, 12MP set at ISO 160, f1.8, and AWB.   Enjoy. Spanish Dancing

Street Fairs are great people photography opportunities. Folks are having a great time and don't mind being your subject. I wanted to capture their mood, a combination of rhythm, passion and sexuality that this vibrant music creates. A moderate zoom at 5.6 allowed me the images I wanted. Enjoy, Jeff

Snowscape with the Fuji X10

This is Stoney Creek, just before the turn off to Lapland Lake, taken with the Fuji X10, processed first in iPhoto, then enhanced a bit in Topaz Adjust. Lapland Lake is an idyllic Cross Country Ski Center in the Adirondacks near Northville NY. The overcast light was perfect for landscape photography. A bright, sunny day would ruin a shot like this. WB was Auto, f5.6 at 1/250 sec. Focal point was 1/3 in at the central snow mound in the water so that the image would be sharp front to back. Enjoy, Jeff

iPhone Close-up Portrait

When I saw our grandchildren playing around like this I whipped out my BEST CAMERA, ( the one that is always with you! Thanks Chase Jarvis) and shot this. Originally in color, I put it through B &W Camera, a terrific App, that allows you to apply filters for B & W photography effects. I chose a red filter as it created a more high key, soft glowing image that I really liked. Lesson, always have a camera with you, it will be your best camera. Enjoy, Jeff

Turbo liner Graphic Image

As per the story in the image below.  Another close-up of a wheel- springs mechanism.  Originally a pale brown I converted it to this contrasty Monochrome photo using Topaz Adjust.  Shot with the X10 ( incidentally, I noticed on the screen the embossed X10 on the spring arm!).  I was intrigued by the rust and decay, knowing that this would make a great study.  Enjoy, Jeff

Close up with the Turbo liner

Charles Szuberia of our photo club, the Schenectady Photographic Society, told me of the defunct NYS Turbo liner project. These Amtrak trains, part of a failed refurbishing plan, sit on a spur at the Scotia-Glenville Industrial Park. When I see large subjects as this, I often go looking for the details, which are usually more interesting than the whole subject- a locomotive. Scouting around with Fuji X10 in Macro mode, I found this wonderful color opposition that I enhanced in Topaz Adjust. Enjoy, Jeff

The Christman Sanctuary

We had a bit of snow last eve, thus I headed out to one of my favorite nature preserves for some meditation, spiritual connection and of course image making. These three images were shot with the iPhone 4, using True HDR and then further processed in Camera+. There, Clarity and frames finished the work. Enjoy, Jeff

Moto Cross and Artists Touch

Started as an iPhone image from the flat screen TV and then played with it in Artists Touch. I used a knife pallet brush to create a sense of increased motion and speed around the cyclist. A fine pointed brush was used on him. Enjoy, Jeff

SLR or iPhone ?

Cold outside today and little to shoot. So with my iPhone on Camera+, earphone volume+ button as cable release, iPhone tripod adapter, in the warmth of my home, I merrily shot away using the Samsung flat screen tv showing Moto Cross racing. I don't think I would have cooler images had I been there with my SLR! Had a lot of fun and got some cool images. Enjoy, Jeff

Snow in Brooklyn

Using the iPhone stealth technique described in the post below this image, I captured this two kids and enjoyed their interchange. Image edited in Snapseed. Enjoy Jeff

Stealth street Photography

Caught this fellow walking in a mild snowstorm this weekend. I used the iPhone 4s in super stealth mode. Using the ear headphone with the volume switch I was able to hold the camera at my chest and using Camera+, fire the camera quickly with the volume up switch on the earphone wire. Looked like I was listening to music!! Image edited in Photoforge
Enjoy, Jeff

Old Roses

Old flowers are great subjects for the iPhone. The aged, wrinkled look creates a texture worthy of a photograph.

Shot with the iPhone 4 in and edited in Camera+, I was able to achieve the image I saw in my mind's eye. Enjoy, Jeff

Iphoneography

A small bright pond offered a potpourri of texture, color and design. Always with me, the iPhone allowed me to capture the scene. Later I edited the shot in Iris PS, then Camera+. I also blended the photo with a soft blue background in Blender at 50% multiply Blend. Enjoy, Jeff

The Secret Lo-Fi Technique

I found a way to create a base image that then is blended with a photo. In this case, the base image was blended with this old Spanish church shot at night, and the further "artsified" in Iris PS for a grunge effect! I really like it. Enjoy, Jeff

The Artistic Blend

A flower blended with a color pallet, further edited in Snapseed allowed this creation. What a way to help lower blood pressure! Enjoy, Jeff

Blended Imaging

This my first experiment with a new App called Blender. It allows you to combine images and decide the blend mode, just as in Photoshop. I used two images of our beautiful grandchildren changed first into digital paintings using Artists Touch. I put them together using Screen Blend Mode. What fun! Enjoy, Jeff

iPhoneography

This is our King Charles, Charlie. Shot with iPhone4 using Camera+. Further editing involved Clarity and Fashion in Photo Fx. From there to Photoforge for vignette, and then to Tilt Shift to blur the competing background. Finally the frame was added from PS Express. Also note the perspective at rug level for this pet portrait. Enjoy, Jeff
